February Favourites

The shortest month of the year is now over, and what a month it has been. Watching the news has been particularly awful over the last couple of weeks as the world has been shocked and sadden by the awful invasion of Ukraine. My heart goes out to the people of Ukraine and all the innocent people across the world who have been affected by military conflict.

On a slightly brighter note, winter finally seems to be coming to an end. The nights are getting lighter and although the entire county seems to have been battered by gale force winds for the entirety of February, we have seen some sunny days recently with slightly milder weather. Hopefully brighter days are coming; here are the things that I’ve enjoyed this past month.

  • Five Rules for Rebellion: Let’s Change the World Ourselves : – I picked up this book by activist Sophie Walker in News from Nowhere, one of my favourite independent bookshops, in Liverpool last November. It is a fascinating and informative read that presents stories from very inspiring people over the last couple of years who have used their voices and fought hard to make the world a better place for others.
  • Pink cord trousers- My love for charity shop finds continues to thrive after I picked up these gorgeous trousers the other week. I’ve been on the look out for a pair of corduroy trousers for a while, and fell in love with the pastel pink shade and comfortable fit. They’re a smarter alternative to jeans, but still can be dressed down for everyday wear.
  • Rules of the Game– This four part drama was actually showed on BBC One last month but, as I only got round to finally watching it on iPlayer this month, I’m going to include it within my February favourites list as it’s definitely the best bit of telly I’ve watched this month. It’s a gripping thriller about a family owned company with some dark secrets and hideous sexual politics behind the boardroom. There are plenty of twists that will keep you hooked and asks a lot of questions about safe and employee-friendly a lot of workplaces really are.
