Charity shop haul

Written by:

If there is one thing that anyone should know about me is that I absolutely adore charity shops.  Not only are they a much more sustainable way of shopping than buying brand new, but it’s fun to search through pre-loved treasures and find things that you want to keep.  It had been a while since I let myself loose in a charity shop, but I popped into one in my local town centre after a dentist appointment last week.  I know that I really don’t need any more books or clothes but, after a successful clear-out last month, I convinced myself that I do have space in my bedroom to fill with more treasures.

Books:

  • The Last Devil to Die (Richard Osman)– This is the fourth title in Richard Osman’s Thursday Murder Club series of cosy crime novels, which follow a group of elderly residents in a care home who solve murders together.  I already read the first three books in the series, and I managed to find them all in charity shops.
  • Carrie Soto is Back (Taylor Jenkins-Reid)- Taylor Jenkins Reid is one of the most popular authors of the last few years, and I have seen nothing but outstanding reviews of her novels on my Goodreads and social media feeds.  I read my first book of hers, Daisy Jones and the Six, last year and I really enjoyed it, so I’m looking forward to reading more of her work.  I really like her genre of modern, historical fiction that is just pure escapism.  Carrie Soto is Back is set in the world of professional tennis, and I can imagine it to be full of high tension and drama. Bring it on.
  • How to Kill Your Family (Bella Mackie)- Another author for whom I’ve seen nothing but good reviews for is Bella Mackie.  I’ve not read any of her books before, but I am excited to read her debut fiction book.  The title alone tells me that it’s going to be dark and bloodthirsty.  All the books that I’ve read so far this year have been romances, so bring on the bloody and guts!

Clothes:

This mustard-yellow suede jacket stood out to be from across the shop, and I knew straight away that I couldn’t leave without buying it.  Originally from Sadie Sink’s Pull and Bear collection, I just love the colour and style of it.  It’s still nowhere near warm enough to wear light jackets but I can’t wait to not take it off my back this spring.  It just feels so effortlessly chic.

I was slightly less decided about buying this vintage knitted top.  I do love the gorgeous lilac colour and its cute details on the front, and I really like the boxy shape.  Upon trying it on, I’ve found that it fits like a glove and the material doesn’t feel itchy.   My only concern is that I’m still not sure whether I’m cool enough to pull it off.  Will I look like a vintage fashion girlie, or will I look like I’ve raided my gran’s wardrobe?  Let’s watch this space, as it was too pretty to leave in the shop.
